Youth Science Canada is pleased to announce the launch of a new award for the 2014 CWSF in Windsor, ON – The BlackBerry Smartphone App Development Award.

Are you interested in computer science, gaming, or app development? Do you have an innovative and creative idea that can help solve a real world problem through smartphone technology? If so, you may be eligible to receive the new BlackBerry Smartphone App Development Award sponsored by BlackBerry!

As announced at the 2013 CWSF in Lethbridge, AB, there will be a new award available at the fair for excellence in Application (‘App’) Development. In order to be eligible for this award, students will need to build an app using PhoneGap or Appcelerator that meets the BlackBerry 10 UI guidelines. This means the app will be eligible for the Built For BlackBerry certification and will also be easily deployed to other platforms (Android OS and iOS). Resources are available at http://developer.blackberry.com/.

The awards will be granted as follows:

Junior: $500 cash and a BlackBerry 10 smartphone

Intermediate: $750 cash and a BlackBerry 10 smartphone

Senior: $1,000 cash and a BlackBerry 10 smartphone

*In addition to the above, winners of this award will also get the chance to have some one-on-one mentorship time with a BlackBerry app development expert.

The number of technical jobs available in the future far outweighs the number of technically skilled students. Take the first step in challenging your technical abilities in what promises to be a creative, explorative, and fun scientific experience!

A complete list of awards is available on the CWSF website.
