Canadian Science Publishing - publisher of the National Research Council (NRC) Research Press journals - announced today that Sarthak Sinha is the winner of the 2012 NRC Research Press Scholarship that recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of a contributor to the Canadian Young Scientist Journal (CYSJ).

Sarthak is a grade 11 student at Henry Wise Wood High School in Calgary, Alberta, who works part-time at the University of Calgary (Biernaskie Lab) in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine. Since November 2011, he has been an editor on the International Student Editorial Board of CYSJ. Sarthak was a Canada-Wide Science Fair 2011 finalist and a member of Team Canada-ISEF 2012.

"Receiving this award sponsored by NRC Research Press has been an enormous honour! It is an encouragement to keep working towards my goals" says Sinha. "I have been an editor at the CYSJ for two-and-a-half years and it's been an incredible journey, to say the very least. From learning how to collaborate with scientific organizations to helping pick the best articles, I feel proud saying that the work we do is important and ground breaking. CYSJ is the only national journal focused on high school articles; it aims to bring new opportunities for exposure and experience in the scientific community to younger scientists that were previously reserved for university students and graduates."

"After receiving a glowing nomination from the Editor and editorial board of the CYSJ, we at Canadian Science Publishing agree that Sarthak Sinha is a worthy recipient of the 2012 NRC Research Press Scholarship," said Cameron MacDonald, Executive Director of Canadian Science Publishing. "His significant contribution to CYSJ and his extraordinary achievements in the field of science are to be commended."

Youth Science Canada is a proud partner of the CYSJ.
