Youth Science Canada is pleased to announce the eight recipients of its 2013 Distinguished Service Award. The Awards annually recognize up to ten volunteers and staff who have made an outstanding contribution, through innovation, long service, or leadership, to the organization or its programs at any level. This online science competition is open to young people aged 13 to 18 from around the world - working as an individual or in a team. Adam Noble (18) of Lakefield, Ontario won the International Cooperation Award at today's award ceremony for the 2012 European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS), in Bratislava, Slovakia. In addition to Canada, the guest countries competing for this award, with a cash value of 5,000 Euros, included China, New Zealand, South Korea, and three top projects from the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the USA. Youth Science Canada is saddened to report that CWSF 2011 alumna, Eleesha Wijeratne from Toronto and her father were killed in a head-on crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) last weekend. A teen was driving the wrong way on the ramp from the QEW to the northbound Highway 427 when his SUV collided head-on with the family's minivan. Eleesha dreamed of becoming a chemical engineer.
